Gratitude:
When n0 Gun ended our tumultuous, dramatic and ultimately rewarding four year run, we had just recorded a 5 song EP, with four of the songs missing vocals.
As we began to think about how this labor of love could become real / complete and yet also have some larger, beneficial impact, Roe v. Wade was horrifically struck down.
Frederick Buechner once wrote that 'Vocation is the place where our deep gladness meets the world's deep need.' Perhaps this music we irresistibly, and irrepressibly had to make, could also meet a need.
That said, we recognize that we’re pretty much a no name band from Utah made up of a bunch of dudes. Who are we in the grand scheme of things? Who are we to make this statement?
We initially reached out to many female artist friends to collaborate on this project. The timing and logistics were such that only Brooke Suffridge was able to participate, but all the invitees were enthusiastic and supportive. We're grateful to them for their encouragement and so much more.
Humbly, we recognize that this release won’t come close to moving the needle. The state of politics in this country is nearly beyond repair, with far too many conservative asshats, representing a dwindling minority of Americans, holding a disproportionate amount of power and sway.
Ultimately, it’s clear that men are largely the issue here - attempting to do away with abortion even in cases of rape and incest. Some are even attempting to eradicate birth control! Fuck that. And since we are sadly a part of this pitiful, pathetic demographic, we thought we’d try to do something, however small, in the hopes that this little pebble might create unknown larger ripples.
Feeling purposeful, resolved, and hopeful, we recruited some dear friends from across the country: Brooke Suffridge from North Carolina’s @alcantaratcnc, Matt Hall from Alabama / Tennessee’s @newbrutalism_, Peter Makowski from Utah’s @swarmer, Mike Guarrine from Chicago’s #nudemodelband, and John “Chuck” Goshert formerly of Lookout Records recording artists, Monsula, to help us release this EP for a good cause... To support Women's Bodily Autonomy / abortion access.
And folx showed up. Big time. We are super grateful for everyone's one hundred percent pro bono contributions - from the sensational performers, to the album cover artist, Elena Gwyneth (Please chip in as you are inspired to her Venmo handle: @Ellie-Mann-1), to Chuck Coffey at Snappy Little Numbers, to Jonathon Warnberg who mastered the tracks, and last, but not least, to Justin Reynolds who pitched in with marketing and publicity. So in addition to Utah, Illinois, North Carolina, and Alabama; Texas, Minnesota, Colorado, California are also represented on this release. It is truly a national effort. And for that we are forever grateful.
If you love hardcore music. If you hate loud music. Whatever your tastes. Listen, don’t listen, but please donate. This is an issue of decency, dignity, and of basic human rights.
Ultimately, we hope you will contribute to a woman's unalienable right to choose…to know what is best for her and her body. We commend you all to reach deep and support this very worthwhile cause.
Thank you.
